Face Serums 101
If you don't quite know what a serum is and why you need it, you're not alone! I was introduced to the world of serums about 1-2 years ago and now they are a regular product in my everyday skin routine. Many often think serums are the same as a moisturizer and if you're already using a moisturizer why use a serum? Actually, they are not the same, a serum is more lightweight and filled with much higher concentration of active ingredients.
Serums have honestly changed my life and can assist with everything from banishing blemishes to spots to wrinkles. The correct way to apply a serum is post-cleansing, pre moisturizer and sunscreen (always a must). Serums will seriously change your skin's life for the better, no matter your complexion. Check out a few of my must haves, depending on your skin needs below:
To Nourish Skin: Vintners Daughter Active Botanical Serum
This serum is one my of absolute favorites, while on the pricer side, it's worth the splurge! It contains 22 botanicals and 60+ bioavailable nutrients that work together for healthy, radiant, youthful skin. I love that this product is clean and I noticed such a difference in my skin after using it. This serum not only nourishes skin but it also helps with texture and radiance. I generally use 5-8 drops in the morning and at night before bed. It's important to rub your palms together after placing the drops in your hands to activate the serum. Another favorite of mine is the Sonya Dakar Organic Omega Booster! When my skin is feeling super dry, it helps replenish much-needed moisture.
To Keep Skin Youthful: Skinceuticals Vitamin C
When I'm looking for a daytime serum to help firm my skin, I used the Skinceuticals Vitamin C serum. The serum contains both ferulic acid and pure vitamin C and E. It improves the appearance of lines/wrinkles and helps with loss of firmness while still brightening your complexion. Another favorite serum to help with fine lines and firmness is the ARCONA Youth Serum. It's great because it replenishes lipids lost in aging and stress.
To Brighten Dull Skin: REN Perfecting Serum
This is one of the first serums I started using, I really like how lightweight and how it's free from parabens and sulfates. It's perfect to help even tone and brighten, I noticed a difference in my skin after using it for a few months. It also helps with hyper-pigmentation!
To Protect Your Skin: Lancôme Genifique Antioxidant Serum
If your skin if prone to breakouts or sensitive to weather, travel, different seasons and pollution, look no further than Lancôme Genifique Antioxidant Serum, as it protects your skin against environmental aggressors. This serum is one I use whenever I'm traveling and changing climates. It soothes skin sensitivities (tightness, itchiness & redness) due to dryness and also provides antioxidant protection against environmental factors.
To Help Banish Blemishes/Dark Spots: Caudalie Vinopure Natural Pore Minimizing Serum
If you're prone to breakouts, blemishes and oiliness- then this is the perfect pore-diminishing gel serum for your skin. I really like this serum because it contains 100 percent natural salicylic acid to help with blackheads, pores, breakouts and excess oil. If I notice my skin starting to break out, I'll start using this serum in the morning and at night. It's also perfect to use as a spot treatment for problem areas.
