Ultimate Guide to Mascara
Mascara has always been a favorite part of my makeup routine. I, like many others, save mascara for the last step in my process, and it always amazes me what a difference lashes make in completing a look. Below you'll find a list of some great mascaras and discover which ones might be suited for you.
CURLERS/PRIMERS
Just as you would apply a primer before doing your makeup, you should also apply a primer for your lashes before applying mascara. Eyelash curlers and mascara primers will help your lashes stay curled, create a deeper color and aid with long wear. My favorite lash curler is the Tweezerman ProMaster Lash Curler. I love this one because it's gentle on the lashes and elongates them without causing breakage. After curling my lashes, I like to apply the L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara. Once I apply this, I let it dry for about 15-20 seconds before applying mascara. I find that this primer helps my mascara to not transfer onto my eyelids and also prevents it from flaking throughout the day.
LIFTING MASCARAS
I love using lifting mascaras, especially when I'm not wearing any other type of eye makeup (i.e. eyeliner, eyeshadow). This helps open the eyes and makes you look more awake. My all-time favorite lifting mascara is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara because of how it holds the curl and makes my lashes appear fuller and longer.
LENGTHENING MASCARAS
My mascara drawer is mostly made up of lengthening mascaras. I love wearing these types of mascaras on their own, even with a bare face, because allows for a polished, put together look with minimal effort. Some of my favorites are below!
VOLUMIZING MASCARAS
Volumizing mascaras are great when you want to achieve a bolder look. Bold lashes are my favorite paired with a statement lip (deep reds, burgundy, etc). I love using the Dior Diorshow Pump’N’Volume Mascara, and Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara to help tie everything together.
You can also find great mascara options at your local drugstore. The two mascaras that I keep on me are the Rimmel ScandalEyes Retro Glam Mascara and the Maybelline Volum’ Express The Rocket Washable Mascara.
Clean Alternatives
I try to incorporate clean beauty products into my routine every so often, but sometimes find they aren't as pigmented as their alternatives. However, after some searching, I've found a few brands that are both clean and extremely effective.
